Sleeping Giant Grill in Kauai

We got the chicken burrito and the plate of shrimp that was on special. The chicken burrito was a solid burrito and the shrimp was delicious. It was fresh, cooked perfectly, and super flavorful. Would highly recommend this place and the shrimp.

We tried the ono tacos, both grilled and fried, and the shrimp plate. All were very good but we were split on whether grilled or fried was our favorite. Would eat it all again and probably will.

Excellent Poke! Quick service meal was delicious. Wish we would have discovered sooner in our trip. I would consider a hidden gem for good Hawaiian food.

Get the Habanero chicken, don’t be scared by the name. The spicy sauce is on the side so you can control how spicy it is. This fish is amazing. We had it three times while on the island. Their fish tacos are amazing too. Some of the best food on the island.

Pretty great place for takeout. The fish was perfect in the salad was phenomenal. The service there was really friendly and quick.

Food was consistently good. Ono fish wrap, ahi plate, and ahi poke bowl were all cooked perfectly and were fresh. Takes a while (20 minutes) for them to make your order but it is worth the wait. They do not serve beer or liquor. Couple of benches outside and 5 or so tables inside. However there is no AC so it is very hot to eat inside the restaurant. Atmosphere is very casual (order at counter) so take out is probably a great option.

Stayed at the aston nearby and liked this place. Food is quick and good. One nitpick is that they don't have beef options, pretty good food though!

The best fish tacos we had in the whole island!!

In 10 days, travelling around the island, this was some of the best food we had in Kauai! Everything was fresh and delicious. We appreciated the friendly service!

I will change my rating from 3 to 5. Original rating was because we were eating outside and weather was bad. No fault of the establishment. They can't control the weather. Had our napkins blown away and we were cold. We were wet and didn't want to get the restaurant floor wet. Again, no fault of the establishment. Review and rating revised to reflect this.

20$ for a Dixie plate of stir fry with chicken. It was very filling and a good amount of food, but the presentation was just off. The food was drenched with sauce almost taking away the natural flavor. It was a good after a long tiring day so I would recommend if you want a casual quick “grub” meal.

Really good food! Got ahi poke bowl one day and seared ahi the next day. They were both really good with fresh, good quality fish.

Really good. I can see why a lot of people say these are “the best tacos they have ever had.” I went later in the evening and the Ahi fish didn’t seem as fresh as I was expecting but it was still good, however the Ono Mochi style was outstanding.

Recommend to with the pepper pork plate & grilled shrimp plate, paired with rice and salad. A perfect balance between the dressing used to cook the shrimp and pork without taking anything away from the produce itself. Compliments to the chef!

Wife and I shared the fried fish tacos and the fajita burrito. Best fish tacos and best fajita burrito we’ve ever had. The whole meal was insanely good, and we will be coming back for dinner and lunch again.

Had the Ono Andy Irons burrito and it was the bomb! Go check this place out!

Big portions for a good price! Laid back environment and hit the spot. I had the fried chicken burrito and it was great! If you’re looking for a chill, low key place to eat where you don’t need to wear a button up shirt, look no further. Plus you can bring your own booze!

Flavors were spot on and it's just great food! Got our meal to go and walked over to the beach to eat. Watch out for that hot sauce, it's hot, just a dab! But so good!

Stopped by for a late lunch. The menu and food are excellent. We had fish tacos and my family loved it. They also have in the condiments area a nice home made salsa.

The Tacos were the highlight here - full fish, tasty and tangy sauce. 10/10 will visit again. This a great stop for an after hike bite.

We ate here twice, and have tried the Teriyaki Chicken plate, the Korean BBQ Chicken plate, and the Ahi Poke bowl. All were really delicious, especially the Poke. BYOB or they have a fridge full of non-alcoholic drinks to buy. Outdoor eating with shade.

Had one each of the grilled and fried fish tacos. Both generous cut filets were equally delish as they were perfectly seasoned and sauced. Wife had a small salad with a side of ono which was a perfectly grilled generous portion. Thanks folks for accommodating her food allergies.Another in our group enjoyed their vegetarian bowl (really a good sized plate) very much. The Sleeping Giant was another fantastic culinary find during our trip to Kapa’a.

Very good fish burrito! Everything fresh! Just a little hole in the wall-has some tables inside but why would you want to eat inside when it is beautiful outside! Picnic tables.

We ate here a lot. Prices are a little high but the food is fantastic. They will put the sauce on the side if requested. They were able to answer my questions for food allergies. We had fish tacos, and their salads. Fish is cooked just the way you want. Order to go or eat there.

The. BEST. Fish. Tacos. EVER. This place and these tacos will be on my must revisit list in Kauai no doubt. Also, BYOB. Because you can’t have tacos without a cerveza. And these guys are so cool to let you do it!

The Grilled Fish Tacos are INSANELY AWESOME Simple restraint with great price and Amazing Food! Just get the fish tacos. Just mind blowing and I eat a lot of fish tacos.

Mochi style ono burrito, grilled chicken tacos we're both good!

Really good plate lunch style food here. Katsu and Korean BBQ chix and Fish tacos all were good. The mac salad that accompanies was also good. The only issue we had was we didn't hear them call our name for pickup and I think our food sat there for 15 minutes while we waited for them to call us. It wasn't busy and so we figured they'd do it more personal so we sat just outside the restaurant. Not sure what happened but we didn't realize our order was up until after someone who ordered after us got their food, we checked and it had been ready for some time. It wasn't the worst, we took it to our condo and reheated the dishes in the oven but it was a slight annoyance that knocks a star for me. Would eat here again but be hypervigilant for the order up call.

Highly reccomend! The fish is delicious, and lots of good veggies to boot.

This was where my wife and I learned how good Hawaiian food could really be while on our honeymoon. I hate fish, but my wife attests that these were literally the BEST fish tacos she ever had in her life. Girl wants us to order these tacos and have them shipped back to New York, she crazy. Anyways, I had a chicken burrito with pineapple and it was tremendously delicious. Lots of respect to the folks at Sleeping Giant Grill for keeping it real, really good.

I got the Mochi Fried Chicken, which was delicious with the sauce it was served with.

Tacos chicken with cheese and mustard is so guilty for us because we seldom put so many sauces in one dish, but it is really delicious!! Chicken plate is crispy chicken with spicy sauce and brown rice, this one is so hot but acceptable, both of us like it!

Best meal I had on the island. Ahi Tuna Wrap. Pure glory! And you can take that to the bank because I know food. Semi-spiritual experience!

We go here fir the Ahi wraps food is always good. I am going to complain that nobody working here was wesring a mask. All your customers were being honorable. Ckean up yiur act or we sill nit cone bavk.

Fish tacos might be the best I’ve ever eaten. And I’ve lived here 30 years! Great menu. Covid safe. Nicest people. You’ll be stoked with the food. Promise.

The ahi wrap is amazing, fish tacos equally as good. Have been here twice this week after trying it a few days ago, will be a staple any time I'm on the island. Great food and value.

The best fish I've ever eaten. Seriously delicious food. We went here too get a quick bite to eat one evening and we were talking about how good the food was for the rest of the trip. The fish tacos were the best I've ever had and the teriyaki chicken was fantastic. So much value for your money, you can't go wrong eating here!

Best fish tacos ever. 2nd place not even close. Wife had fish burrito which was so big I had to finish. I did so gladly. Off beaten path but make sure u find this place.

If you happen to be staying at Aston's Islander on the Beach in Kapaa, this little eatery is right next door. My wife and I tried two of the daily specials--chili pepper pork and the vegetable stir fry--and both of us enjoyed our meals immensely. The very friendly guy who waited on us at the counter even recommended a fishing charter service to me and showed me two huge just-caught onos in the cooler he was going to prepare for serving. Great place!

It is shockingly hard to find good saladIt’s easy to find good fish, it’s usually with rice or something else less healthy.This place does salad right, beyond lettuce they do multiple veggies like carrots, sprouts etc. I had the Ahi both times as it’s caught fresh daily and seared with a Cajun rub that has a kick but not too spicy!

This is some of the best food if not the best on the island. Everything is fresh and the recipes are amazing. The fact you can BYOB is a total bonus. Do not skip this place, do yourself a flavor and get their fish tacos.

Best meal we had on the island. Much better than some other “overrated places” we found ourselves at paying crazy high prices. The ono wrap and shrimp plate were absolutely delicious. Simple digs and reasonable prices for super fresh food. You can tell everything is fresh by the taste, but we also got to see that day’s ahi catch. So cool! Come eat here — you won’t regret it!! My boyfriend said the fish tacos are in the best he’s ever had. I had ahi tuna that was so fresh, and the staff was really really nice! Absolutely make a stop here

Definitely get the mochi fish tacos. Love the flavor and that they are one giant piece of fish. Yum.
